Soul of the Forest
Soul of the Forest explores the intimate and almost mystical connection between humanity and nature. At the centre of the composition, a woman appears within a vibrant, dreamlike landscape, accompanied by a peacock, colourful parrots and delicate flowers.
The relationship between the woman and the animals is central to the meaning of the work. The peacock looks directly into her eyes, creating a quiet and powerful moment of recognition between human and nature. Traditionally associated with beauty, transformation, self-expression and awareness, the peacock becomes almost a mirror to the woman — observing her as she observes the world around her. Their gaze suggests a silent understanding, as though they belong to the same living environment rather than existing as separate beings.
Another important detail is the parrot whose eye is positioned exactly where the woman’s eye would be. This visual connection intentionally blurs the boundary between the human figure and the animal world. The eye becomes a symbol of curiosity, perception and the desire to discover. It suggests that seeing the world through another perspective can reveal something new about ourselves. The woman and the parrot almost become one, sharing the same gaze and, symbolically, the same curiosity about the world.
Despite the richness and intensity of the surrounding nature, the woman’s expression remains calm and unafraid. Her stillness contrasts with the movement, colour and abundance around her. She does not appear threatened by the wild; instead, she seems completely at ease within it. This sense of calm suggests acceptance, trust and a deep connection with nature — a state in which the unknown is not something to fear, but something to explore.
Through the interaction of gazes, colours and organic forms, Soul of the Forest invites the viewer to question where the human world ends and the natural world begins. It is a celebration of curiosity and fearless exploration, suggesting that when we allow ourselves to look closely — and to be looked back at — nature can become a reflection of our own soul.
This original artwork was created by Daiana Ilenuta on a 60 × 60 cm canvas, using a combination of oil and acrylic paint. Each element was carefully layered and worked by hand, making the piece entirely unique.
